Michael Grant’s “Gone” movie update

While there still hasn’t been much news on an Animorphs movie, the new series ‘Gone’ by Michael Grant (co-author/creator of Animorphs) seems to be seriously being considered for a movie. Michael Grant explains it in his own words, using the Twitter video, below:

  1. PLEASE! MAKE AN ANIMORPH MOVIE! It could be the next great movie saga! It’s about the perfect time, people might have started to forget the tv/book series, a series the most kids/teens at the time LOVED. Just think of the old generation of kids, AND new generation coming together to see an EPIC film series! ahhh my hopes are up now lol. :)

  2. gone was one of the most amazing books it really needs to be made into a movie.find some good actors and an awesome producer and it could be one awesome movie

    Comment by brittany hanks — September 6, 2009 @ 5:03 pm

  3. I imagine one of the huge hurdles with Animorphs is the issue of screentime being dominated by telepathic animals. Works great on the page but the Hollywood people are probably skeptical. One of the issues with Gone is the difficulty in marketing it with big name actors since there wouldn’t be any adult roles.

    Anyways, this is great news.

  4. I think that making Gone into a movie would be amazing, however I think it would be cool if they made it into a TV series. On the subjec of characters I think that the perfect characters should be the characters on the cover of the book. If they arent able to, get someone that resembles them. do that and this movie will be huge!:)

    Comment by Emily — September 19, 2009 @ 3:16 pm

  5. Totally agree with Emily – TV serioes would be great, like a Heroes-style drama but for teens – say 12 episodes or so a season you could adapt the rest of the novels into a season per book it would be awesome – teen TV series are usually more memorable than movies!

    Comment by Mark — September 21, 2009 @ 6:29 pm

  6. That would totally awesome if Gone was made into a movie. They should definitely use the characters from the book cover. Sam and Astrid are so cute together lol

    Comment by Brittany — November 1, 2009 @ 6:07 pm

  7. who would yall like to take the roles of sam & astrid & quinn and all them? i’m actually starting to look up some actors…

    Comment by Megan — November 7, 2009 @ 10:29 pm

  8. I think Sterling Knight for Caine, he’s got that over-charming look that seems creepy underneath, and although he’s 20 he could definitely pass for 15. If not him then someone very similar.

    Comment by Mark — November 10, 2009 @ 6:27 pm

  9. Gone was a good book. They really need to make it a movie. I would watch this movie, My friends would watch this movie, and people who are intrested in thrillers will watch this movie. I can’t wait if this movie is coming out! :) :):):):):):)=D

  11. Man, if this will turn out to a movie I don’t think I’ll be so happy. Huh, maybe I’m just gonna be jealous on the actors allowed to be in it x]
The only movie I’ve watched who’s better than the book must be… Maybe the Lord of the Ring, but the book is really good to! Oh my God, I remember the Golden Compass… I think I have nightmares about the Gone-book turning into a movie like that! But hopefully Mic wont let that happen.

    Comment by J — November 25, 2009 @ 8:37 am

  12. OMG!!!! im am so happy that they are making this into a movie and a tv show!! i hope it works out!!

    Comment by belen — November 25, 2009 @ 5:54 pm

  14. NO! don’t make it into a TV show!!! A movie would be great but a TV show will get me sick of the characters and everything…. I absouloutly adored these books an d have lies preordered… It is my most favorite book ever!!!!!!!!! Dont do it please for the REAL fans!!!!!!!!! BTW no offence to your idea i loved the books. P.S: Every TV show ( in my opinion) made from a book has ruined the experience of the book. Bye Bye!

    Yay!!

    Comment by Alyssa Rogers — December 7, 2009 @ 10:44 am

  22. May 4th is the release date for ‘LIES’, the next Gone book. The movie is still unconfirmed for now.

    Comment by iS — December 8, 2009 @ 12:03 am

  23. Thanks Litany, glad we agree on Sterling. Any other casting ideas?
And in reply to Sami, I am a REAL fan and a TV series would mean they could adapt all the books in the series, which would be better than just a movie based on the 1st book.
Harry Potter and Twilight are the only book series that are adapting every book – look at Stormbreaker, Golden Compass, Series of Unfortunate Events – most children’s/teens’ book adaptations only adapt the 1st book and then give up! I want all the GONE series!

    Comment by Mark — December 9, 2009 @ 5:08 am

  24. No, not Sterling Knight he’s too… blonde (I feel racist now) But Steven R. McQueen would be really good for the role of Caine :) . The book is awesome! :> Can’t wait for Lies and Plague! I like Diana though, she’s the character I’d love to play :) ) Really sarcastic with an acid tongue. Seems fun to be for a day :P But I really want Gone to be turned into a movie, waiting for it! :)

    Comment by Nadine — December 9, 2009 @ 7:48 am

  25. Quinn Alex Pettyfer
    Edilio (Mark Indelicato)(Nathan Kress)

    Caine Logan Lerman

    Dekka Keke Palmer
    Breeze Annasophia Robb
Taylor Bonnie Wright / Debby Ryan

    Jack Alexander Gould
    John Jimmy Bennett
    Lana Jodelle Ferland

    Zil Cameron Bright

These are my suggestions. The ones in () are ones I wasnt sure on :)

    Comment by Magnus — December 15, 2009 @ 11:16 am

  26. Nah, dude. Don’t use already really famous people like the Disney’s. Like the dude in the book cover as Sam, he’s hot.

    Comment by Breanna — December 16, 2009 @ 7:54 pm

  27. Oh my gosh Alex Pettyfer is amazing i love him he should be in more movies and also FINISH THE ALEX RIDER SERIES I MEAN REALLY FINISH THEM!!!!

    Comment by Alyssa Rogers — December 17, 2009 @ 9:45 am

  28. OMG that would be so awesome if Gone was made into a movie. I would freaking die! It’s my favorite book of all time! I can’t wait for Lies to come out. Also if it is made into a movie I think Annasophia Robb should play Astrid. I think she’d be perfect for the part.

    =]

    Comment by Caris — December 22, 2009 @ 6:57 pm

  29. Alex Pettyfer? He’s at least 20 now! Waay to old and zero talent! I agree not to use famous people, use unknowns so they don’t get boredafter one film. I want them to make all the books.
Plus I said Sterling Knight as a kind of guide rather than for definite.

    Comment by Mark — December 23, 2009 @ 7:47 pm

  30. OMG!! i reli am looking forward to this… When izit going to be released or izit realeased alredi?? I’m waiting fr the new book HUNGER!!

    Comment by natalie — December 31, 2009 @ 12:57 pm

  32. so agree w/ natalie. hay mabey any one of us could be in the movie if it ever come 2 b.hope soo!;).

    Comment by josie — December 31, 2009 @ 9:45 pm

  33. I agree with Josie and Natalie. There are only so many talented teen actors and actresses out there. The majority of them are from disney or nickolodeon and people see them everyday. Why not hold open auditions so that people from all over can attempt to get a part? This will allow the movie (if made into a movie) to be truly unique and will make it a huge success.

    Comment by katie — January 2, 2010 @ 10:25 pm

  34. I really want this to be turned into a film. I dont think that really famous people should be used. the actors on the covers should be asked to act, they already kinf od portray the image that we have in our heads.

If the producers were to choose random people through auditions, I would DEFINITELY audition. I’d love to be able to play Lana, Astrid or Diana.

I really hope it gets turned into a film, it’s be a hit!!!

  37. Please don’t make a movie from Gone! The books are too good for a movie! And it will ruin the way I imagine the FAYZ! Don’t ruin an amazing original book!

  45. I think it would be Ah-mazing if Gone was made into a movie, and that they could do a lot with it!
i deffinitley dont think any1 famus should be in it, unless its like one or 2 pple…i think this movie should have fresh new faces. i would lloovvee the part of DekkaF!!omgoodness. if there are ever castings i hope he will let every1 kno!!!

    Comment by Tara Asare — February 3, 2010 @ 2:37 pm

  46. the gone sreies is supossed to have 6 books

    1)gone 2)hunger 3)lies 4)plauge 5)darkness 6)light

a movie would be awsome times 22 billion
yet a tv series would be good too ONLY if they play it frequently like 2 episodes or 1 hour per week

also Plauge seems cool! their is bound to be some kind of sickness…not like i want anyone to die…

    Comment by kennyd — February 6, 2010 @ 7:57 pm

  47. Also if their were to be a show, do you people think it should be on? like channel wise

    Anyone?

    Comment by kennyd — February 6, 2010 @ 8:01 pm

  48. I am 18 years old. A senior in high school. And I have fallen in love with this series. These books, portraying the lives of hundreds of preteens to babies, is a work of art, and creates a generation gap bridge builder from Lord of the Flies to the present.

It was only four months ago that I read LOTF for my english class, though I had previously read it, and I have to say that this series portrays the situation of kids in complete isolation perfectly. It shows the harsh reality of not only society, but of humankind.

Even though, as we all know, movie and book adaptions never turn out how we would like them to (due to numerous reasons), I think this would be amazing to see this book series turned into a movie and come to life. Also, I agree with Michelle. If this is going to be done right, they have to bring in some fresh faces. No big names for these characters. It just wouldn’t be right.

As for the comment about it turned into a tv series, I think that would be amazing, however, I’m scared that it would turn into the next “LOST”. It might not be as compatible if put on a small screen, especially with the technicalities involved to bring the book and it’s creations alive. So my vote: movie.

I CAN’T WAIT for this to come out on the big screen…or at least I hope….

    Comment by diazf — February 7, 2010 @ 12:43 am

  49. Ooh TV show, never thought of that but I actually think that wud b way better than a movie cos then they wont cut loads of this FANTASTIC book out!

    Comment by Elodie — February 9, 2010 @ 5:07 pm

  50. Finally! i thought everyone was done or bored of talking about gone and hunger. glad i was wrong

The comment by diazf was awsome + true, yet a tv series would allow a lot more things to happen. Maybe even some grusume scenes like when drake shot sam in the knee. its not that bad compared to other shows and movies.

Umm some stuuff you might want to know is that i got all 3 0f my 3 teachers to read gone and hunger this past month. I’m 14 so it was awsome to have them talk to me about the series. 1 of my teachers was so angry about how gone anded that she demanded reading the next one. it was funny

    Anyway, keep writing.

    Comment by sarah — February 28, 2010 @ 4:43 pm

  58. Please no superstars for the main roles. Take time to find people that accually look like the characters. I’m a huge fan of the Gone series and I would hate to see some Disney Channel actor play a beloved character. And frankly no star I have ever heard of comes close to resembling any character in the series.

    Comment by Eliza — March 2, 2010 @ 10:18 pm

  59. Just curios,
Is there going to be another book beyond Lies? If there is it would be fantastic. I could not stand to see such a wonderful series come to a close.

    Comment by Eliza — March 2, 2010 @ 10:24 pm

  60. Eliza, yes, there are going to be 6 books total for the Gone Series:

    1. Gone
    2. Hunger
    3. Lies
    4. Plague
    5. Darkness
    6. Light

They are all going to be released once every year. Michael Grant has apparently already finished Plague (and has submitted it for editing stages) and is now working on Darkness.

For those that are still discussing this topic, you can discuss it more in depth at our Forum here, including the series and not just the movie: http://www.hiracdelest.com/community-status.htm

    Comment by Issam — March 2, 2010 @ 10:37 pm

  61. I think a Gone movie would be amazing, as long as they didn’t cut out the important parts. Like, they can’t cut out the scene with the ‘freaks’ (and Sam, Astrid, and the gang) in the concrete blocks or any scenes like that. I also agree that they should’t use the big-face actors. I like the people on the original cover. I’d like to play Brianna actually . . .

    Comment by Linea — March 3, 2010 @ 8:33 pm

  68. YESS!! GONE has to be made into a movie!! If it isn’t, I’m going to be ticked. GONE was the most amazing, adventurous, thrilling, awesome book I’ve read. I think I might like it better than Harry Potter or Twilight. I can’t wait for LIES to come out!! But, the characters for the movie can’t be big stars. They should most definitly be the people from the book cover.(Like I said before :) ) They look perfect for the characters. WOO! TEAM CAINE!!!

    Comment by Jaden — March 8, 2010 @ 5:33 pm

  69. Thanks so much, Issam. I appreciate it. I love Gone and I think Lies is going to be amazing! I can’t believe there are going to be so many books. No complaints though…

    Comment by Eliza — March 11, 2010 @ 6:26 pm

  70. No offense Jaden.. but i have to disagree on the characters for the movie being the people on the covers of the books… They aren’t pretty or cute enough. Sam and Caine are supposed to be really hot. And Diana and Astrid are supposed to be really gorgeous.. so i just have to disagree there. The people on the covers are not attractive.. like they’re supposed to be. So that’s just my opinion.

    Comment by Haley — March 11, 2010 @ 6:28 pm

  71. As “cute” as some people say Sterling Knight is I have to say that he would be awful as any character in the movie. One, because of the lack of talent. And two, because he does not resemble, in any way, the characters in the book.

    Comment by Eliza — March 11, 2010 @ 6:38 pm

  72. I do agree that making a movie of Gone would temporarily disrupt the image we create in our head. But I also think it would be so much fun. The Harry Potters were so much fun to go see at midnight. I remember going with my friends and dressing up. I still think of Harry the same way I did before I saw the movies. It was hard, though to get that image back. I, and I hope others, are willing to make that commitment to see what Gone would look like in theaters

    Comment by Eliza — March 11, 2010 @ 6:45 pm

  73. TEAM SAM!!!!! See? I can do it too.

    Comment by Linea — March 11, 2010 @ 6:46 pm

  74. I think Gone would be better off as a TV series.

But it would be best till all the books are out I reckon. But then that won’t be till 2013 at least!

    Comment by The-Gaiaphage — March 12, 2010 @ 8:09 am

  75. I think that Gone would be a better movie than a T.V. series because if it became a T.V. series they would have to keep adding on to the story. Also, it would take a while for them to finish the story and I think that people who have read the series would get tired of waiting for the next episode to come out. It would also be easier for people who have not read the book yet to stay clear of having the book be given away if it was a movie.

    Comment by Eliza — March 12, 2010 @ 7:51 pm

  76. Please amke gone a movie!!!!!!! It could be the next Harry Potter or Twilight!

i’ve got an idea for the trailer of book 2, hunger.
they could be driving in an suv with depressing tune in the back ground and a narrator is going “three months have passed… no food…” end then EZ picks a cabage. sam screams no and then the zekes come!

  82. Yousuf Anwer, i think thats a good idea for a hunger trailer, though i still think the should get really started on gone. I would love to audition too. I guess i could play Diana(not that i’m a big fan of her evilness) or maybe Breeze. My friends tell me i have no shame so acting would be fun. Also it would be cool to give teenagers a chance, u kno, new faces.

  87. OMG! THEY BETTER MAKE A GONE MOVIE! I THINK IT WOULD NOT BE A GOOD IDEA IF THEY MAKE IT TO A TV SERIES. A 2 HOUR MOVIE SHOULD DO IT…I HOPE.

    Comment by ines — April 6, 2010 @ 9:50 pm

  88. I would be SO HAPPY if you made Gone into a film =D A TV series would be awesome, too ~ but I think the fans of the book might get a little annoyed with waiting for the next episode to come out, but you could fit so much more into a series than a movie XD
I know in lots of films they cut out an awful lot of the book to make it fit a certain time, and I seriously hope they wouldn’t do that for Gone XD
Well, that’s my opinion, I suppose XD

    Comment by Bethan — April 7, 2010 @ 6:08 am

  89. Gone would be a cool movie. I wouldn’t like it to be like Twilight. Because Twilight used known actors and Twilight has haters. I don’t want it to be like Harry Potter either because though popular the Harry Potter movies seem to be straying further away from the book with each movie. I think that they should keep most, if not all, elements of the book in. It would most likely be rated higher than PG-13 (or 12’s if you’re in Ireland like me.) But it would be well worth it. It would also be interesting to see what they could do with a TV show. (Word of advice to the people writing the film/show.) Don’t pull a Percy Jackson and cut all the important/interesting parts out of the movie. Because that might make me hunt you down.

    XD
I agree with Bethan. (Salutes Bethan.)

    Comment by Anonymous — April 20, 2010 @ 9:35 pm

  98. No. They’d ruin it. I really want it, sort of. But the movie makers never take the book seriously. They do their own thing and don’t care what the fans think. Remember Harry Potter? Twilight? Ella Enchanted? Inkheart? Percy Jackson? The list could go on. Since it’s mostly kids, we would end up with a bunch of Disney Channel actors. Either that or they would pull a Percy Jackson and make them in their 20s or something, which would totally ruin it. The plot would be messed up and barely recognizable. The characters wouldn’t come across right, the script would be lame, the special effects would be the only good part. If they could by some miracle do it right, I would want it so badly. But since they never get it right, no. No way.

    Comment by Lizzie — April 22, 2010 @ 6:06 pm

  99. A gone movie-if done carefully-would be excelent, but a TV series, nah. I just can’t picture how the episodes would work.

The movie though, if there were no extremely famous people in it and possibly the people on the cover as their characters, that would be SWEET!!! And for the roles like Briana and Dekka and the rest of them, if there was open auditions(not just in America, but in Canada too) for teens that are actually the right age and not like 20. That would make the movie really good.

I agree with Orla (#89) that they should deffinatly not pull a Percy Jackson on the movie. I was a huge fan of all the books but the movie made me soooooooo MAD! Please, if you make a movie, don’t let that happen.

When I read really good books like Gone, the characters stick with me and I can’t get them out of my head. I think about them so much. I analize every scene, seeing how things would pan out if someone would say something differently or do something differently.

Argh!Sam Astrid Quinn Edilio Dekka Caine Daina Drake Briana Jack, I CANNOT GET YOU OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!!!!!

    Comment by The Breeze — April 23, 2010 @ 6:48 pm

  100. Yeah, the movie wouldn’t be as good as the book they never are, but that what makes the book even better and it would be awesome to go see. Plus when you read a book like Harry Potter then watch the film it’s fun to pick out whats been missed.

    Comment by Ash — April 25, 2010 @ 11:22 am

  101. I know that it’s set in America, but I’ve always imagined Caine as having an English accent! The movie should be good, but I hope they don’t make it as gory as the book, especially with Lana’s arm. That was freaky.
I don’t think it should be a TV series, seeing as anyone could watch it and it might give little kids nightmares, plus I live in Australia and don’t have pay TV, so I would probably miss out. :(

  102. I love gone and Hunger there so amazin!! I wish they would make it into a movie, but i agree with #101 I would not watch it if it was gory! If they did make a movie they should hold auditions in loads of places like america and the UK and get the right people in stead of the famous ones!

I would absolutely love it if they made a movie no matter who was in it though.
Michael Grant is the best author ever. I have all the books in the series. I go through them in like two days. So, I reread them over and over again. I’m such a bookworm. :)

    Comment by Kate H. — May 19, 2010 @ 9:16 pm

  116. A movie/tv series would be awesome! I personally thing that they should use unknown actors for the movie, because then you could watch it and be like “Oh no Sam!” instead of being like “hey, its the guy from disney channel!” They should defiently not use any “actors” (and I use that term loosely.) from disney channel or any from any kid or teen television show/movie. That would ruin the entire series, because half of those people have no acting skill what so ever.

I just thought I would comment on this too, whoever said that Keke Palmer should play Dekka, I have one question for you: Are you F-in on drugs??

    Comment by emmy — May 21, 2010 @ 6:55 pm

  117. I would be so happy if this book were made into a movie, but i think a T.V. series would be awesome because there’s so mcuh that goes on in the book, that the movie could miss details and make it disappointing to people who love the books. A T.V. series would be able to hit more of the little deatils from the book. As far as actors, i think alex pettyfer for the part of Drake, Dylan Patton for the part of sam, selena gomez for Diana, meghan jette martin as astrid.

  118. I would die if this ever became a movie or a TV show!!!!!! This book def has to be relized for what it is!!!!!! I think it should be an open casting call to regular teens thou….no disney actors, disney actors suck! but yah whoever said keke palmer should play Dekka your truley on crack!!!1 you kneed some on who is way tougher without being like idk…..her. but Dekka has spunk and carisma. Shes tough and she needs to be played by someone who can betray that. Not keke palmer. Dekka is AMAZING!!! but yah if it was a movie i would freak out so bad. I say do it!

  130. I believe that this is a great opprotunity for more people to get informed on this amazing and sinister book series created by the godly, Michael Grant. For the actor problem that alot of people are talking about, I think that it would not be a problem because there aren’t any adult roles, I think it would just be an even better opprotunity for younger, aspiring actors to make it into their big break. The Gone series are without a doubt my favorite book series ever and I would very much love to see it be made into a movie. It could be very very VERY huge (dare do i say it but yes even bigger than the Twilight Saga movies) GONE ALL THE WAY!

I think stephen speilberg and michael bay should team up again for this movie. michael bay is great with special effects amd could make everyone’s mutant powers look good as well as the battle scenes, like the thanksgiving day battle or the battle with drake merwin at the power plant.stephen speilberg has the experience like when he directed the stunning E.T. or the action packed transformers movies. 141. I think Guy Ritchie would work really well to direct the Gone movies. He did the Sherlock Holmes movie and is very good at working with the dark tones that are scene in the book. I dont think sterling knight would work as Caine I think he might work better as Sam because when he is composed and doesnt show emotion he looks very bland which isnt Caine at all. I know that this seems very odd but I have been told I look like the Diana from the cover of the books if anyone really cares to know. Cause as I was reading I was able to match up most characters besides her. But I love the books soooooo much :)

Too many of my favorite books are being twisted and mangled almost beyond recognition on screen! It would be so incredibly awesome to finally have a book-movie adaption that actually closely followed the book! If this movie gets messed up…

  143. I really, really want this movie to come out because Gone was such an amazing book (same as the whole series). But I feel like this movie would be twisted into something stupid and nothing like the book. Like I’m gonna get pumped about this movie and Hollywood would screw it over. I agree with David

    Comment by Kiani — June 30, 2010 @ 2:47 pm

  144. well, kiana, its mentioned several times throughout the books that sam is very nonsecretive with his emotions. besides, no emotion is diferent than trying to stay low.
also, sterling knight, as pointed out earlier, is not in the right age group. sorry, but ya gotta follow the books guidelines if you dont want the movie to flop.
this is the BEST SERIES EVER!!!!! i DO NOT wanna see it screwed up, thats all…

    Comment by Andrew — July 1, 2010 @ 8:45 am

  145. In the book Astrid makes a comparison between Caine and Sam saying that Caine always has this confidence and this brovado (Im pretty sure I spelt that wrong) and Sam doesnt really have that. Sam is more real I guess you could say. Are you really saying that Sam doesnt show emotion because I believe he does. Not meaning to be rude. Sterling Knight does the show Sunny with a chance and he plays someone who is about 15 years old in that show. So I didnt know that he was that old. Sorry for not being a stalker. I also think that the director that did the first pirates of the carribean movie would work well as a director. Just saying.

    Comment by Kiana — July 1, 2010 @ 9:35 pm

  146. I think that for an adaptation of the books to be successful the characters/animals and location could all be changed to attract the majority. Imagine a graphic darker version of the book. And a darker setting too, imagine the book set in a big city, you could still stay true to the central plot but there’d be so much more room for expansion rather than a small town. I’d personally like to see the movies made for an older audience. If it was ever made I certainly hope they wouldn’t go all ‘Twilight’ on us. I want to see a mature director and cast. Personal preference would be the guys behind Kick-Ass. It was a movie about kids for adults. It was gripping, dark, funny, violent and had an exceptional soundtrack to match. Wishful thinking, I’d choose any of the following to helm the project; Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), J J Abrams (Star Trek), Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass, Snatch) or Quentin Tarantino. I’m sick of books being butchered when they’re turned into movies. The story is fantastic but not ideal for the big screen. We shouldn’t be afraid of change but embrace it. If some creative minds came together and loosely based a movie on the books, ‘Gone’ could be the next mega franchise.

  147. I think you should not make it into a TV series it would ruin it , imagine Twilight as a TV series or Harry potter, it makes me shiver.

  148. This would make SUCH a cool movie! I spent a while looking up if it was going to be made into a movie, and then I found this web-site and I looked at the Michael Grant video and saw that this might be made into a movie. I got SOOOOO excited.
I agree with everyone who said that the people on the front and back cover would be PERFECT for the part. Sam and Astrid on the cover would be AMAZING! The only other option that I think would be cool for Sam is the person who played Percy Jackson in ‘the Lighning Thief’. That would be cool. On the back cover, the dude with the black hair and Coates uniform is Caine, for sure. But I’m not sure who the girl to the left of him (Caine’s right) is? Could you tell me if you know?
Please commen when you know when the movie is being made or (even better) coming out. Thanks!

  149. All i have too say is alot of those actors are older and look older. i TOTALLY agree with you on Logan lerman to play caine. That would be pretty understandible. That would actually work out really well. <3 Dekka…My favorite character in the book, should not be played by keke palmer! i think she's to i don't know, less getto. I think that if a movie was made you have to get a real black girl to play her. yes i'm black and i would actually love to play her. I agree with what alot of these people said, you cant have big stars really acting in this. You get the coming out stars. I think Brianna should be Chloe Moretz. Sam is hard to cast or even give a face to a name. Quinn seems like he should be laid back but you know the typical surfer physic if you'd say. Cayden Boyd would be good for either Sam or Quinn. I think thou it would be great to do the Auditions in the states but still have those actors from hollywood. THIS WOULD BE A GREAT MOVIE, if done correctly.

And, I do think that the people on the front and back covers would be great for the film, but the problem is… those people are most likely models, not actors. But they still would be great for the part if any of them have some acting experience.

Can’t wait for the movie!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥☺

  154. Sterling Knight should NOT NOT NOT!!! Be Caine. Caine is described to have dark eyes, dark hair. Sorry, Sterling, but he is blonde and has blue eyes. In ‘Sonny With a Chance’ Sterling Knight passes off for 16 or 17. He’d have to pass for 14 which I don’t think he can do, considering his actual age. I’m not trying to put him down, but I don’t think he’s right for the part.

    1)NO BIG NAMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2)Good director.
    3)Good soundtrack
4)Open auditions for every character before you pick, in multiple countries.
5)ME! (haha jk… although, if you hold auditions on the East Coast of Cananda I would deffinatly try out)

It has fantastic potential, it just needs those four things[or five;)]. Good luck, Michael!!! I seriously hope this works out.

  157. briget,
I dont know what to classify Chloe Mortez as but she’s was in Kick-Ass, 500 days of summer and Diary of a wimpy kid. She’s a little bit more known than Cayden Boyd I think, im not a hundred percent positive, but it hink he was in Shark boy and lava girl. I agree about you with sterling knight thou……

  158. Sterling Knight shouldnt be aloud anywhere near the movie in my opinion. But I think that this would be a good oppritunity for young aspiring actors and actresses to really try and make it into such a rough business. I think that this particular project calls for some major open casting calls all over the United States at the very least. The kids in the books are like everyday kids. so who better to play them than us everyday kids?

    Comment by Kiana — July 8, 2010 @ 2:08 am

  159. Yeah, I agree with Kiana. Everyday kids = everday kids! we know what it’s like (the everyday kids part, not our parents disapearing behind a inpenitrable wall:)) but most of us might not have some acting experience.

    Carly-
i looked at a pic of Chloe, TOTALLY! She would be PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT for Brianna, I think. Cayden Boyd… I dunno. It’s a possobilty. buy definiatly an option.

  160. A TV series? Nah… It’d be too… weird. A movie? Fo’ Sho’ (for sure) I L♥VE GONE!!!

    Comment by Bridget — July 9, 2010 @ 5:36 pm

  161. I would rather they made it into a tvsries that a movie then they can take time with each part intsed of rushing and ruining a great story like they did with the last airbender and eragon

    Comment by anyomous — July 10, 2010 @ 5:53 pm

  162. I think it would be better as an awesome and fast paced movie rather than a tv series. the first book takes place in like 11 or 12 days and idk how that could possibly be made into a tv series and then the second two have even shorter time spans. Idk how Lies could be a like a season because its less than a week. I dont think it would be possible.

    Comment by Kiana — July 12, 2010 @ 2:04 pm

  163. I loved Eragon. Great movie. Last airbender? Nahh…

    Comment by Bridget — July 12, 2010 @ 3:18 pm

  164. I recently finished reading Lies and it seemed to me that there was some sense of closure…apart from the flu going around. Is Plague going to come out along with Darkness and Light? Or is the series over?

  165. I’ve only read GONE. What is the next one called???

    Comment by Bridget — July 14, 2010 @ 11:17 am

  166. the next one is called HUNGER followed by LIES

    Comment by Kiana — July 16, 2010 @ 7:10 pm

  167. I know that this is an old post…but…
I really do hope that they will make these books into movies. They would be phenomenal..IF they got a cast that both looks like the characters, and can act. =]
Also, I think it would be a high-budget movie because of the special effects and everything that would have to look real..
I’m really hoping that it will be made into a movie! xD

    Comment by Gianna — July 17, 2010 @ 12:33 am

  168. That’s not an old post! I ope it is a movie. It’d be GREAT! I don’t know what the other books would be good for movies because I haven’t read them. BUt still.

  169. dear michael grant and possible gone producers and movie makers,

    Comment by Jenifer — July 27, 2010 @ 12:13 am

  175. a movie would be totally awesome! but dont make it into a tv show it would ruin it. and i agree with a lot of yall they should use the people on the cover. and if it is called plague wen is it suppose to come out? im almost done with lies and i dont want to wait forever these books are awesome one of my favorite series!

    Comment by Craig — July 27, 2010 @ 10:25 pm

  176. Gone, Hunger, and Lies were all amazingly fantastic books!!!!!! If they make a movie/ TV series, my only wish is for there to be an equally amazing cast, because you can’t just throw anyone into playing such great roles. Long live the FAYZ!!!!

    Comment by Ki-Jana — July 27, 2010 @ 11:02 pm

  177. @Jenifer – Well, Mr. Grant has said there will be six books, titled Plague, Darkness and Light. At least, that’s what Wikipedia said. :)

    Comment by Ki-Jana — July 27, 2010 @ 11:25 pm

  178. Sorry, *the next three will be titled…*

    Comment by Ki-Jana — July 27, 2010 @ 11:25 pm

  179. I’m sorry to upset some people, but I twittered Michael grant asking him about a movie/tv deal and he said “The movie is not likely. They want adult characters. I don’t have any.” :( I’m upset about it, but at least we have 3 more books in the series to be excited about. I still hope something will happen, although I would probably want it to be a tv miniseries, like “The Pillars of the Earth”. Mostly because miniseries are usually more faithful to the books, and they would be able to fit everything in the show, instead of having to cram and leave some things out which would happen with a movie. Either way though, I would really love for them to have open auditions nationwide for the parts. I think it would really be fun to play the part of Diana, and I know a lot of people would also love to play parts, or at least be given the chance to audition. Also, I would hate to see a known actor play any part in the adaption, and there are a lot of undiscovered talented people that would end up doing a better job. But hopefully, something (either a movie or tv miniseries) will be made.

  185. I just finished this book and am dying to get my hands on the second book!! and it would be even greater if a movie would come out! im sick of the vampires! make a movie series that doesnt involve vampires!!! (hint, hint) (;

    Comment by Brianna — August 5, 2010 @ 7:09 am

  186. omg i just read the book and it is amazing! it should totally be a tv series or movie but hopefully not to much gore should be in it. i also would like people who actually look like the people in the book. (movies and tv shows usually kill the characters actual appeal). I really want them to use actual special effects; for each of the kids powers.e.g drake and his whip hand, sam with his sammy lights etc. etc. Hopee this becomes a awesomee moviee! hahaa and i agree with you brianna. SO sick of vampires!

    Comment by Zehra — August 6, 2010 @ 9:49 pm

  187. Please make gone as a movie! I really loved the book!!

    Comment by Silje — August 7, 2010 @ 8:15 am

  188. I think that if Gone was turned into a moie or a television series, it would go one of two ways for me. Either it would be even more amazing than the books, (which is hard to believe) or it could completely ruin the way that i invisioned those characters and would not be a success in my eyes. However, if it is sucessful i think it would be wonderful for the story to be forever remembered because I just can’t get enough of the fayz.

    Comment by hailey — August 11, 2010 @ 10:15 pm

  192. yeah it would totally work as a movie just so long as they dont skimp and get shitty acters and b-grade sets and effects and shit. if ur gunna do it go 100%!

    Comment by gilbert — August 16, 2010 @ 4:28 am

  193. this was the most amazing book ever i’m 13 i read gone but then i coulndt get the next books for a while when i finally got them i read both in just a week! i really hope gone is going to be a movie cuz it totally deservers to be a movie and i bet it will have a top rank when it hits movie theatres

    Comment by Maddy Nykolaishyn — August 16, 2010 @ 9:55 am

  194. Yeah, this book would be a great movie. If any known actors are put in, I couldn’t picture them as one of the charecters. Say, if Emily Osment were to play Astrid, I couldn’t picture her as Astrid, I would picture her as Lily from Hannah Montana. Many talente people are out there, and they want a chance to go to the big time. I REALLY hope this will be a movie. It’s my favorite book EVER! I ♥ GONE!!!!

    Comment by Bridget — August 17, 2010 @ 4:25 pm

  195. Gone was my all time favorite book. but im not sure they should make it into a movie unless it has some killer effects(for like their powers)and if they had amazing actors and didnt change much at all. if they had the people that pose for Sam,Astrid,Caine,Diana etc. on the book covers as the said charactars,it would be awesome!!! but if its not good, it might change the way i think of the book, like the twilight movies did to the books for me. I <3 the Gone Series!

    Comment by Claudia — August 18, 2010 @ 10:22 pm

  196. I think a movie would be much better and more memorable than a TV series. A TV series would be too spread out.

    Comment by Evan — August 27, 2010 @ 2:00 pm

  197. This is who i think should play the characters:
    Sam – William Moseley
    Astrid – Annasophia Robb
    Pete – Ty Panitz
    Caine – Sterling Knight
    Diana – Kaya Scodelario
    Drake – Jamie Campbell Bower
    Orc – Cameron Bright
    Albert – Malcolm David Kelley
    Lana – Saoirse Ronan
Now, im aware that these kids don’t look exactly like the ones on the book cover. I chose them based on their acting ability, and how good they were at similar roles to their character… Debate!
P.S. they might have to gain/lose weight or change hair color. do not let something that simple be a deciding factor.

    Comment by myles — August 28, 2010 @ 12:45 am

  198. oh btw i should add that i am a film maker… and unless you have an adult cast, your not going to have a movie. The actors i have listed do look slightly too old for the roles so the age limit on the fayz might have to be pushed to 16 for the movie. DONT KILL ME. Changes have to be made for a movie to be successful. I also believe the director should be Bryan Singer (Director of X-men 1&2)

It will be an extremely difficult to get a cast of young people to perform at theater quality. That is most likely the reason that production companies are shying away from Michael Grant on the idea. Also, for all of you who want the people on the cover to play the roles, those are models not actors. In additon, “No names” can not headline a movie, Hollywood just won’t buy it. Plus, open casting around the country would be entirely to expensive.

I do not mean to sound pessimistic, but i work in this industry and that’s just how things are (unfortunately). Best wishes to you Michael Grant, if this is done correctly it could be the next Lord of the Flies.
