ANIMORPHS #16
THE WARNING

STORY | BOOKS | CHARACTERS

SUMMARY

Jake's made a pretty amazing discovery. It seems like there may be other people who know about the invasion. Others who know about the Yeerks. Jake finds a Web site devoted to the Yeerks. And Jake, the other Animorphs, and Ax aren't sure it's too good to be true.

But if they try to investigate the site and it's a trap, there's no way the Yeerks won't find out who they are. If they don't check it out, they'll never know if they're the only ones fighting. Whatever Jake and the others decide to do, they've got to move quickly, because Visser Three isn't the only one dying to meet them...

TRIVIA

  • ANIBASE: Cassie is the only dissenting voice amongst the Animorphs regarding the Internet in this book -- and it turns out that she feels the same way Katherine Applegate does! Here's what K.A. had to say about the Internet:

"I'm afraid I have a fairly one-sided view of the Internet. I realize I'm using it right now, but aside from this sort of experience, I find the Web a huge dissapointment. If I want research, I can get what I need ten times faster in any Barnes & Noble. As for chat rooms, they tend to sink rather quickly to the level of the lowest common denominator, which, given the anonymity of the Web, is pretty low. Then again, maybe I'm just old."

  • There are a few fan websites that have mocked themselves as real Yeerk websites, such as:

    Earthisours.com
From #43, given by Taylor to the Animorphs to represent the Yeerk Peace Movement.

    The Sharing Website
Take a look at the bottom of the page and see who created the website. The name Victor Trent comes from the human morph that Visser Three uses on the Animorphs TV show.

    InfestRight.com
Takes place after #54, as an online Yeerk-Human host dating service.

    The Yeerks are Here!
A messageboard that mirrors the topics that were being discussed in this book. This website also sent out a viral video online to keep things up to date with the current time events and the ending of the book series.

  • When Ax is asked to identify the green aliens that are often described in alien conspiracies and abductions, he refers to the Skrit Na, and an adventure that Elfangor once had with them. The adventure that he's talking about is actually a part of Elfangor's journey from The Andalite Chronicles where he finds Loren and Chapman held hostage aboard the Skrit Na saucer-shaped ship.

NEW PLOT ADDITIONS

ANIBASE: New to the Animorphs series is a very unique Yeerk named Esplin 9466, also known as by the name of his host, Joe Bob Fenestre, a billionaire now thanks to Esplin's help. That double six at the end of Esplin's name is important. It means that he was formed from the same grub as another Yeerk, half of a pair of twins whose identical brother happens to be the vicious Visser Three. But Esplin has been shunned, and now he lives in hiding. He stays alive without Kandrona Rays in one of the most horrible ways imaginable -- he captures fellow Controllers, splits their host's head open, and grinds the Yeerk into a powder that he then ingests. Ugh. No wonder Visser Three hates him!

Jake Rhinoceros
Rachel None.
Cassie None.
Marco None.
Tobias Fly
Ax None.

Visser Three None.

None.

Bball24
Jake's on-line screen name. He's a simple guy, Jake: He scored 24 points in his best game of basketball, hence the name.

Cassie98
The fake screen name Marco set up for himself so that he could make fun of Jake's crush on Cassie. Ah, Marco. Such a joker. Well, at least Cassie98 isn't a 78-year old retired postal worker like Marco's online girlfriend.

Web Access America
The entirely fabricated Internet service provider whose offices the Animorphs snuck into.
